A day by geeks, for geeks and about geeks on October 18th, 2014.
Join us once again this year where the University of South Florida's College of Business ( 4202 E Fowler Ave, Tampa, FL 33620 ) will welcome us to their campus for a day of learning, sharing, networking and geeky fun.
The event will be a BarCamp Tampa Bay. The doors open at 7:30 am and signups begin shortly thereafter. Sign-ups for sessions are from 7:30am to 9:00am on a first-come, first-served basis. Sessions start at 9:00am and end at 5:00pm with a break for lunch at noon. Lunch will be provided. Parking is free and across the street at the SunDome. There will be more information in an email we will send out to registrants just before the event.
The topics and the presenters are diverse, but will appeal to anyone who has an interest in technology and the internet. This is an event for web designers, developers, marketers, copy writers, SEOs, sys admins and anyone who operates a business with a web presence to get together and share their knowledge. The endearing quality of the unconference format is that you have options all day. If the presentation you choose isn’t what you were expecting, you can always jump over into another room and check out something else.
The schedule starts BLANK in the morning and is filled up by attendees that want to do a presentation. Presenters choose their room and time and everyone else scours the board to choose the path that they will take for the day. The day is what you make it, by choosing presentations to attend and deciding whether or not to present a topic. This is the best part of BarCamp. While most presenters prepare topics beforehand, there are sometimes impromptu topics from passionate people inspired by the feel of the day.
Barcamp is a community event, both in participation and in funding. It is made possible by the time and money donated by the crew of people running the event, the attendees and companies that support us. Thank you to all of you! Each year we have some fantastic companies that sponsor by donating time, money, facilities and supplies for the day. We’re also very lucky to get great support from attendees making donations in order to attend. We hope that everyone takes the time to check out the companies and people that support us!
If you have never been to a BarCamp unconference what kind of sessions and speakers can you expect? This is a day of learning for our attendees who represent all coding languages and supporting technologies in the Tampa Bay and surrounding areas. Expect some very exciting sessions planned for and by our developer community with related topics such as Google Glass, User Experience (UX), design, startups and many more. This year we will also have teams from the FIRST ® Robotics kids group working and demonstrating their robots for the day along with Tampa Hackerpace, St. Pete Makers and the Tampa Bay Inventors Council. We have a number of videos of sessions posted on our YouTube channel. This video is a compilation of BarCamp topics and can be found here.
If you have a topic you want to share with the tech community, BarCamps by tradition do their sign ups the morning of the event on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration starts at 7:30am and sessions begin at 9:00am. Sessions last 50 minutes and we recommend that you plan for about 20 to 25 minutes for your presentation followed by an interactive question and answer session. If you would like to learn more about how to do a BarCamp session, you can check here or here.
Would you like to volunteer for part of the day? It's a great way to get to know more of the people in the tech community. If so, register here.
